crafty

in an effort to find a craft that didn't involve frosting (and the subsequent eating of frosting (and the subsequent weight gain from the frosting)), i decided to make felt-y fabric-y things. first, i tried my hand at the fruit, since it seemed less daunting. it wasn't too hard, so i moved onto this robot for the boy. he doesn't much care for it right now. but he will someday. i'll make him.

ps. i got the pattern here.

gulf coast cottage patterns

so, i was looking around for some robot items for my kid for christmas and happened upon this super cool etsy shop. the etsy shop had a link to the blog (here).

i've already told derek exactly which 4 patterns i would like to purchase (and which one i would like for my free 5th pattern). i can't wait to start making cute stuff for the boy....

here are some pictures of the stuff you can make with the patterns.

so, my stay at home mom friends, go check it out!

shelves

we put these shelves up yesterday. and by we, i mean derek. i put the stuff on them. anyhoo, it's nice to have something on our walls. the emptiness was a little depressing.
now i just need to decide what will permanently live on the shelves. i have so many ideas.....

oh, and yes, that's burl ives on the tv. i'm listening to christmas music already. so what?

double take

Not magical

I had never really given it much thought, but I guess I had hoped that the putting up of Christmas decor was more christmassy than this. :(

Sarah and Isaac take New York

On Friday morning, Isaac and I headed off for our first ever road trip alone. I was a little skeptical, but the boy was a total champ. He got a little cranky towards the end of each trip, but who wouldn't after 10 hours in a car?

Here's some pictures:

The ride up. Cookies and other delicious snacks were a big help:

Playing on the slide at Aunt Eleanor's and Uncle Ray's:

We paid a visit to the cows that reside across the street from Aunt E. and Uncle R.

Jake and Isaac playing house:

Jake and Isaac.

Playing in the leaves on the lower deck:

Dancing with Aunt Eleanor:

Jumping on the couch at Anna's house (the Varland homestead):

The new puppy (Lilly), followed Isaac around, collecting various treats...

Working on a puzzle with Terry, who was a very encouraging audience:

After each successful puzzle piece application, Terry would cheer and slap his legs. So Isaac cheered and slapped his leg. After several completed puzzles, here's the boy's leg:

And then, the ride home. Non-nutritious snacks would abound.

calvary cupcakes

just finished these cupcakes for a calvary volleyball party.

isaac was sitting on the counter next to the fondant pieces while i was making the frosting. he looked over at the pawprint piece and said "steeee" - which means "steve" - which means blue clues. so, he thought that the pawprint looked like blues pawprints. cute.

patterson farms

after church today, we made a spontaneous decision to go to patterson farms to check out the pumpkin patch. it was a little bit crazy, considering the sleep schedule adjustments we were going through due to the time change, but we figured all crabby boys would get over their sleepiness when they saw the wonders that patterson farms would behold.

i've only posted a few pictures here. for one, i'm having a little trouble with blogger. for two, derek took one zillion pictures and i put a lot of them in picasa, which you can view here, at your leisure. and since there's slightly fewer than one zillion good pictures of our day, i think posting them once will suffice. our internet connection is smoking...

isaac loves tractors. he calls everything with a loud motor a tractor. it was one of his first words (that he said clearly). he was pretty excited to check one out:

the corn room was a definite favorite. it was hard to get him to leave. i think this picture captures his unadulterated joy the best:

this is just pretty cute. he's in the bottom of a boat (ark?) shaped play structure, peering out:

and finally, riding a big fake tractor shaped play structure:

anyhooooo...
that was our day.
oh, and for the record, he slept for about 45 minutes on the way and was a complete ANGEL the whole day. the ride home was a little tough, but we were loaded up with treats, so we kept him pumped full of sugar and all was well.

also - we never made it to the pumpkin patch. all the other stuff was so much fun and we ran out of time!
