That's how I would describe the sleeping habits of Sir Isaac.
Somedays he takes three short naps. Other days, two long naps. Somedays, it's one short nap, one extra long nap. Somedays, it's four half naps with a lot of fighting.
Sometimes, he'll go 3 hours without a sign of tiredness. Sometimes, it's one hour and he's ready.
Sometimes, he puts his thumb in his mouth and goes right to sleep. Sometimes, he plays for a little while and then nods off. Other times, he screams bloody murder for 45 minutes (on and off, because i go in and check on him because I'm a wussy). Sometimes he tries all three (goes right to sleep, gets up and plays, then screams. or, plays, goes to sleep for a little bit, and then screams... you get the picture).
I can't figure him out. It's like a rollercoaster ride. I never ever know what to expect.
Here's today's schedule:
6:00 - awake.
6:30 - up and at 'em.
7:45 - down for nap. plays for awhile.
8:15 - asleep.
9:30 - awake.
1:00 - down for nap.
1:30 - screaming.
1:30 - 3:30 - many nap attempts for the crab. lots of screaming.
3:30 - goes to sleep easily.
5:00 - up.
7:00 - bed. scream. pick up. scream. rock. scream. scream. scream. i give up. he gives up. asleep at 7:30.
8:30 - scream. i pick up, lie back down. asleep again.
Just in case you wanted to know.

He's a typical little man. We never know what to expect out of them! I was blessed with a very predictable and good sleeper. Just try to have set nap times. They do best with a set routine, and they know what to expect. So I hear anyway. I'm sure as he gets older he'll get idea and it will get better.
I'm sure he also does this because he's with you all day long now and doesn't want to be by himself to take naps. It sounds like you're doing a good job, so don't give in or he'll think he's the boss. Just wait until he's 2 or 3. They really think they're the boss then. :)
