at the doc

the boy had his 15 month checkup on monday. thankfully, there were no shots. there was, however, a finger prick for a hemoglobin test. isaac was very tough for the actual prick. he didn't even flinch. he was pretty unhappy about the finger squeezing to get the blood flowing. i don't know if it hurt or if he just didn't enjoy being forced to sit still for two whole minutes.

anyhow, here's the mister's statistics from this appointment...

33 inches tall (91st percentile)
26 pounds (68th percentile)
19 inches of cranium circumference (77th percentile)

he seems like such a little guy, but he's really quite big, apparently.

upset.

corn popper madness

isaac loves his corn popper. (gift from uncle jake).

he hasn't quite mastered the push motion, but he can often be seen (and heard) dragging the corn popper all over the house.

the video below is about 50 seconds of him dragging it about the house. if you're waiting for something to happen as a grand finale, you're likely to be disappointed...

colorwars

in a comment (instead of his OWN blog), frankie left this sweet link:
youngme/nowme.

it's pretty sweet, and after checking out the entire site, i feel i can endorse all of it's awesome activities.

more park fun

we went to the park yesterday with a bunch of friends. it was beautiful and the park is always a hit with isaac.

swinging fun:

isaac (and potbelly) and josiah:

he thinks he's a big kid....

so cool.

recurring theme

the boy has yet to learn his lesson about sticking his legs out of the crib. and when he gets stuck, he gets mad. when he gets mad, the nap will not happen. when naps are missed, people get crabby. you get the idea.

i heart baths.

(actually, isaac does loves baths. this face is the result of isaac's mom not letting him dump a boat full of water over the side of the tub.)

party @ the park...

we had a really busy day today.

we started out by hitting some yard sales. that was a total bust.

then, after isaac DIDN'T take a nap, we picked up a side dish to take to allison's 30th birthday celebration at miller park. isaac's favorite park activities were: running through the leaves and into the woods, climbing up and down and up and down three concrete steps and dragging some mini lawn chairs wherever he could possible drag them. (like up and down the steps and through the leaves and into the woods...)

just taking in the scenery:

isaac and josiah running off with some chairs:

isaac fell asleep before we got back on the highway. he then slept for about 2.5 hours - a record nap for the little man!

and he was still a little lethargic when i finally made him get up at 5:00 in the evening...

blue sucker = blue toddler

happy birthday cora!

cora is one today.
i made some cakes. well, sort of.
i decorated a costco cake for the guests.
i made and decorated a "personal" cake for the guest of honor.

park pics

yesterday, we met up with some friends at the park for a few minutes. isaac and josiah tested the swings and the big slide.

up close and cute.

chillin' at the top of the slide.

because of his affinity for falling off elevated items, i've encouraged him to go feet first down most things (specifically stairs). here, he demonstrates the feet first, belly slide:

sans dad

derek left this morning for a week long training in orlando. isaac and i are on our own. i think we'll fare better than last year's week long training (isaac was 2 months old).

breakfast in a box

retreat

i had my first nights away from the boy this weekend and we both survived to tell about it. (so did derek!)...

i went on a weekend retreat with our church's youth group. it was super sweet. i think the "grown ups" had as much fun as the kids.

however, due to the fact that:
1. i'm old,
2. i'm pretty inactive,
3. i decided to run around like a maniac for two days, and
4. i didn't sleep much or sleep well....

i am:
1. sore,
2. tired,
3. bruised and battered...

i even have a black eye to show for my weekend efforts.
so, that's where i've been...

cute.

new life

a few weeks ago, my sproutlings met an untimely death. fortunately, the seeds that lagged behind made it through the frozen night, and have since sprouted themselves. i also replanted the peat pots that were empty, so hopefully, the garden will be ready to be planted in a few weeks...

family visit, in pictures

i didn't take very many pictures when my family was in town, but here are some of the few.

happy to be home

i think the boy is happy to be back in his normal environment.

i'm trying to lay low for a few days, since he's been on the go for quite awhile. of course, if the weather gets a little nicer, we'll definitely head out to the park. or at least the backyard.

adventures of sarah and isaac in batavia, finale

well, we're leaving today. we're going to drive to fairmont, west virginia tonight, where we'll we meet up with derek, hit a hotel for the night and finally head out in the morning.

the weather got a little bit semi-nice yesterday. we went to the pok-a-dot before we showered. isaac ate TWO pieces of toast. this is double his usual toast input and can be attributed to the extremely high proportion of butter to bread. after a nap, we picked up the grams for lunch at wendy's. why wendy's, you ask? well, i forgot my atm card and $10 in cash was all that was on hand. we hit the value menu pretty hard.

then, isaac and i went to austin park for a little while, then to aunt "nano" and uncle ray's for a final visit. we picked up jake, went to walmart for some trip supplies and watched "my name is earl" and went to bed....

today, the boy is very destructive. he's emptied the contents from under the sink, taken out all the candles and playing cards, removed every item from the coffee table, attempted to empty all the cans from the pantry and dumped goldfish all over the floor. some of these things have happened more than once. oh, and i came in from brushing my teeth, to find him on the table, dipping his hand in old coffee. and most recently, he's been putting things over the railing to the staircase and dropping them into the downstairs abyss. i think it may be time for a nap.

so, unless we have the internets on our computers at the hotel, this is it until i'm back in the tobacco state...

adventures of sarah and isaac in batavia, part IV

not too much excitement going on here.

isaac and i stayed with frankie on monday night. then we came back to batavia in the early afternoon (frankie included) and went to aunt eleanor's where she prepared an awesome lasagna dinner.

then, uncle ray pulled out some OLD OLD OLD videos. 22 years old, to be exact. jake laughed at the 1986 version of all of us (and we laughed at ourselves as well). one of the "episodes" was the christmas that leslie and i received our matching sweaters and leg warmers.

we came back to the beach front property for the night and had a ridiculously uneventful day yesterday. we met my mom for lunch at pontillo's. we went to a baby consignment store in batavia (where the 4ish year old son of the owner kept pushing isaac down and making him cry and i decided not to buy anything). we visited julie varland (and nate and anna and new isaac). and then we picked up jake paine from school.

after isaac's nap and dinner, we visited 13 gateway drive, where we saw krista and her fat pregnant belly (and dropped off a baby gift since my mom won't be at the shower because she'll be driving me halfway to the 3-3-6).

today looks to be another boring day. so does friday. stay tuned for all the excitement....

adventures of sarah and isaac in batavia, part tres

some photos:

bundled up to face the blizzard like conditions.

hanging with grampa-terry.

kisses from gramma.

matching shirts with eric. *not intentional*

vintage shots: just me

until yesterday, i thought isaac looked 100% like derek lidbom. now, i'm not so sure...

chillin' with "peter-grampa":

a little bit older, and wearing a sweet shawl...

vintage shots: me and leslie

a few years back, my dad came up for leslie's wedding reception. with him, he brought a stack of old pictures that leslie (eric) scanned in. after the long and arduous process of cropping them and saving them individually, eric gave me a cd of the pictures. here is a small sampling...

leslie and i often received matching outfits. here's one of the best:

we were sooooo cute. at least i think so:

us, with santa. he played a mean saw!
